De Sutter Naturally works not only on the principle of a healthy economic profit, but also from the sincere and deep-rooted concern that hardwood logging operations should occur in an ethically and ecologically sound manner.

For a long time, all wood imported for De Sutter Naturally came with an official IBAMA certificate [Brazilian Institute for Forestry and the Environment], confirming that the wood was logged legally. Not satisfied with this alone, Peter De Sutter was keen to operate in observance of the FSC Standard. The FSC [Forest Stewardship Council] upholds the principles of well-considered foresting.
The FSC has been approved by Greenpeace, WWF and the Friends of the Earth, as the standard for durable forestry. It implies due compliance with the strictest ecological and social rules, within the confines of profitable economic activities..

The concrete elaboration of a huge-scale new FSC project in the province of Mato Grosso very nearly came to fruition. Investments, arrangements, a business plan and purchasing were virtually all in place when, regrettably, negotiations fell through. Peter’s dream however continues to be able to put this durable and ecologically sound approach into effect...after all, this green lung of the planet is on the brink of being wholly destroyed.
