Choosing the right wooden fence

Do you love the rustic charm that a meadow fence brings? With us, you'll find a wide range of wooden fences. Below we go over the choices you need to make when selecting the perfect fence.

  1. Purpose of your wooden fence First of all, the purpose of your wooden fence must be clear. Is it purely decorative, or do you want to keep animals inside? We stock fences and fencing for small livestock, horses, sheep, alpacas and deer. But even if your animal is not on this list, we can work out a custom solution for you.
  2. Different types of woodWe have several sustainable types of wood in our range:

    - Tropical hardwood is the hardest and most durable wood. A fence or gate made of tropical hardwood requires no maintenance and can easily last 30 years.

    - Robinia wood is a pseudo-acacacia and the hardest European wood. This type of wood lasts up to 25 years and has a natural, robust appearance. Perfect for authentic fencing.

    - Red Norwegian pine is softwood that is treated and impregnated with our unique Densiforce process, significantly extending its life. It lasts up to 20 years and is the most budget-friendly choice.

  3. Rural or Modern Fences The look of your fence is also important. Whether you opt for a modern country fence like our Ascot, our Royal Tropics that exude great class or a robust, organic effect like with our Post & Rail, we offer a range of options. From natural wood colors to even stylish black fences like our Square Black.
  4. Size and FinishOur fences are customized to your needs. You can choose from different heights, up to 1m60, and the number of boards (2, 3 or 4). Together we look at what is best for your animals.
All our wood is planed smooth to avoid sharp edges and splinters. In addition, we use push-through fencing where the boards are pushed through the posts. This eliminates the need for screws and nails, making for a secure fence.
  5. Expert placement in all areasIn addition to the fence itself, it is best to consider the placement in your choice. When do you plan this and who do you hire for this?
We install fences all year round. In winter, we can help you within a few weeks. In spring, during peak season, it takes about 2 to 3 months.
Furthermore, pastures are rarely flat. Because we work with through-fences without nails, our connecting posts can absorb curves perfectly. Furthermore, installation is always done by our professionals and we never leave you to your own devices. They install stable and sturdy fences even on terrains that are undulating or sloping.
  6. Additional accessories for your pasture fenceDepending on the purpose of your fence, several options are possible. An electric power wire can keep larger animals safely inside, while wire mesh stops smaller animals. For horse tracks, we also offer sand/ground boards for a nice finish.

Frequently asked questions

De Sutter Naturally stands for top quality, durability, and a stylish, rural appearance that adds value to your property. Our fences are expertly installed with attention to detail, and the safety of your animals is central to this.

We offer tailored guidance, from selection to installation, to ensure the fence perfectly meets your needs and the specific characteristics of your terrain. This results in a sustainable investment you can enjoy for years without worry.

We mainly use tropical hardwood of durability class 1, with a lifespan of 30 years or more, and maximally impregnated pine softwood, which lasts at least 20 years. Both types of wood are selected for their durability and require no further maintenance.

Tropical hardwood offers a luxurious appearance and weathers beautifully, while our impregnated pine acquires an elegant grey sheen. With over 45 years of experience, we know the quality of our wood even in the long term, and we confidently provide a warranty.

Our fences are designed with the safety of your animals as the priority. They are smoothly finished, without sharp edges, and often the rails are slid through the posts (through-mortise systems) without using nails or screws, which is safer.

The constructions are robust and clearly visible to animals such as horses, which helps prevent accidents. The height and number of rails are adjusted to the type of animal.

Our experienced craftsmen use specialized and advanced equipment, including a uniquely developed post-vibrating machine. This machine ensures that the posts are perfectly vertical and firmly anchored in any type of soil, even on sloping terrain or at curves.

Thanks to refined lasers and electronic sensors, the posts are level and at the correct depth, which not only guarantees sturdiness but also provides a flawless finish for the fence.

Our fences, made from tropical hardwood or maximally impregnated pine, are designed to be low-maintenance. These types of wood naturally or through treatment have a high resistance to weather influences and wood rot.

The most important maintenance is keeping the grass and vegetation short under and directly alongside the fence, especially if electric wire is installed. This prevents power loss and protects the posts from prolonged contact with moisture.

Yes, we can install a subtly integrated electric wire on your wooden fence. This circuit is mounted with ring or W-insulators.

An electric fence provides double protection: it prevents animals from gnawing on or rubbing against the wood, which extends the lifespan of the fence, and it teaches animals to respect the barrier.

Absolutely. We provide a perfectly adjusted pasture gate that seamlessly matches the style, wood type, and durability of your chosen wooden fence.

Like our fences, our gates are crafted and installed with the utmost care to ensure ultimate ease of use and a long lifespan. Gates can also be electrically protected.

A De Sutter Naturally fence increases the value of your property by combining high-quality, durable materials, expert installation, and an elegant rural look that perfectly integrates into the surroundings.

It exudes quality and care, which not only increases aesthetic appeal but also improves the functional safety and privacy of your estate.

We stand behind the quality of our products. For our maximally impregnated pine fences (Densiforce®), you can expect a lifespan of at least 20 years.

For our tropical hardwood fences, the most durable type of wood, the lifespan easily exceeds 30 years. With over 45 years of experience, we know the quality of our wood, even in the long term.

A cheaper fence can often turn out to be more expensive in the long run due to higher maintenance costs, shorter lifespan, or safety risks for your animals.

Investing in the quality of De Sutter Naturally means choosing durability, superior materials, expert installation, and ultimately peace of mind, knowing that your fence is safe and will stand the test of time.
